Victor Vialet

Victor Vialet, who is presently living in Manhattan, actually came from the Dominican Republic. He came to this land of opportunity in 1981. His first language is Spanish, and other than English, he speaks no other language. Like most Dominicans, he too likes rice and beans as his favorite food.
Victor's favorite number is one, and the color he loves is very manly, blue. Of all seasons, he loves spring the most, and likes to play baseball very much. He is presently a student at LaGuardia Community College. Before this present course, ESL099, he had already taken ESL098.He comes to the college every day by train. When asked why he chose this college, he said that the college had accepted him on his first attempt. His special talent is that he operates a computer very well, like a computer wizard. Likewise, he types very accurately and fast. He will probably become a computer expert someday. Presently, he himself owns one nice computer.
In his leisure time, this summer, he has watched baseball, and gone for a drive, since he knows how to drive and has a car license too. Next year, he hopes to buy a new car and wishes to visit Miami someday. He is a Jack of all Trades but master of none, as he knows many things but has never won any special awards. What he likes about the United States are the various facilities that the country has provided. He thinks Mayor Rudy Giuliani is a gentleperson but very reserved. If he were the mayor of New York, he would provide a clean city, as he says a slogan, "Clean green healthy New York." He thinks that Bill Clinton is a good president overall.
He has never had an accident and has never seen a show on Broadway. Like most immiragants, he does miss his family and motherland and hopes to go there someday soon. As he is open and frank, in the same way, he likes open and humorous people and hates nosy boring people. He does miss his family and motherland and hopes to go there someday soon as he also remembers every thing of there and emotional incidents that remind him of the of his cousin brother so often.
The saying goes, "Birds of the same feather flock together," and it is so true. Victor and Jose from their early childhood used to get along very well. Any one who saw this pair would say thy looked great, they were so alike in their behavior, their attitude and the way they did the things.
Jose was Victor's uncle's son. Jose's father used to live in the countryside. His father dropped him at his brother's place, so that he could get a good education back in city. However, Victor had more reasons to be happy, as Jose was his own age. They were more like best friends and less and less like cousins.
Victor and Jose went to the same school. They were equally smart and naughty at school and back home too. Anyone would get along with these guys as they had a humorous personality. However, for some reason, Victor always took special care of Jose. He loved Jose very much and never let him feel sad and missing his real parents.
As time passed by, they grew up and finished their school. Now they were ready for college life. No wonder they were excited and happy. They were both famous in college. Any girl would love to be by their side and many girls did mention them as their passion and fantasy. Guys equally got along with these all rounders as they were brave and cool too.
"Time and tide wait for no men," Soon their happy college days were over. Now it was a turning point in their life like of every graduate. Victor's parents were very happy that their child was doing well. Jose had hardly visited his own parents in the countryside. Jose had considered his uncle as his own parents. Like wise, they loved him more than their own son Victor.
Soon they would start working and having many responsibilities. That's what they were talking about one evening, Jose specially was talking a lot that day. He mentioned several times how much he was thankful for his uncle's support and Victor's love and friendly manner. But at the same time he said that, he had not done anything for his uncle by whom he was brought up and given everything in life more than any real father could have given to his own son. He had something on his mind and it seems he had never spoken about it from ages ago. He drained out all his gratitude and tender feelings that he had for the family who had brought him up and had finally turned him into a literate gentleman.
On the way home while crossing the street, all of sudden a car came speeding towards them, but it was Jose who pulled Victor away and let the car hit him. It was really a terrifying day. He did survive, but for a couple of days, he left this world with all memories behind. While he was in the hospital, he always mentioned his uncle's and Victor's name.
Jose knew he would not live and yet he was not sad. He seemed to be glad to have saved Victor's life. He gave everything to the family who had contributed a lot to raise him. Victor was so devastated that he seemed to have lost his senses. But destiny had something different for Jose, as he had to leave this world. Still Victor remembers him like it were nothing less than yesterday. Memories with Jose are still singing in his head like a song of morning stars and Jose for Victor shines every night in the sky, as a charming star, says Victor as he looks up every night.
